We wanted to take a vacation that included some dogs. Too many times we had had to leave them behind & for once we wanted to go on a trip and enjoy their company.
Last summer, we did this. Spent a long time at Union Square San Francisco -- at the Westin St. Francis, with two herding dogs.
My kids learned a lot. We all learned a lot about city pet ownership. Instead of opening the door to take the dogs out, it was out the door, down the hall, in the elevator, down 11 floors, across the lobby, down the sidewalk, across the street, and finally, arriving at the small patch of grass. We always carried poo bags & always cleaned up after them.
The dogs learned a few things also. Like waiting. When elevator doors open, we don't always exit. Lots of strangers. Lots of surprised faces to see dogs in the Westin St. Francis. Herding dogs. Not Yorkies. Heeling -- perfect opportunity at the crosswalks. An opportunity not available much here in Oklahoma.
I think a lot of people we encountered wished they had brought their dogs along.
Ruby and Tucker stayed in their crates while we were not in the hotel room. They did go on a few of the longer day trips with us. They went to Stanford, where other visitors brought along dogs also. Very impressive.
